Mustangs of Merritt Island Sports Association Youth Football and Cheer

Letter from the Commissioner/President

Mustangs Merritt Island - Mission

WELCOME TO MUSTANGS MERRITT ISLAND SPORTS ASSOCIATION!

Dear Parents and Participants,

As the President of Mustangs Merritt Island Sports Association, I want to thank you for your family’s involvement in our program for the upcoming season. As a previous coach and volunteer in our program, I know the amount of time and effort it takes to prepare a team and league for play. I appreciate your commitment to our organization, and I look forward to working with you this season.

Our Mission

Mustangs Merritt Island Sports Association is proud to be a part of American Youth Football (AYF) and American Youth Cheer (AYC), the world’s largest youth football and cheerleading organization. As an AYF/AYC member, we are committed to promoting the wholesome development of young athletes through mentorship, teamwork, and community engagement.

Our goal is to teach youth through positive role models, emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, and academic achievement. We aim to foster leadership, confidence, and self-worth—qualities that extend beyond the field and into everyday life. By creating an inclusive environment, we ensure that every child, regardless of background or ability, has the opportunity to participate, grow, and succeed.

Please Take Time to Volunteer

Our organization is entirely volunteer-based, and we rely on the support of our families to keep our program running. Preparations for the season begin in January and continue through the end of the year. Parent participation is essential to the success of our athletes.

When we ask for your assistance, please help. Volunteers are needed for concessions, field setup/breakdown, game-day operations, and many other critical roles that support our players and coaches. Without your involvement, the league simply cannot exist.

Practice Days

With Florida's unpredictable afternoon thunderstorms, practices may be canceled or delayed at a moment’s notice. For safety reasons, all participants must have immediate access to a parent or guardian during practice. If you are unable to stay for the full duration, please coordinate with another parent or team representative to ensure your child has proper supervision and transportation if needed.

Competitiveness, Playing Time, and Positioning

Mustangs Merritt Island Sports Association is committed to balancing player development with competitive play. Our coaches evaluate players to determine the best positions for both individual growth and team success. While every athlete will have the opportunity to participate, playing time and positioning are determined by effort, skill, and team needs, in alignment with AYF guidelines.

Unlike other sports, football positions require specific skill sets and responsibilities. Players must focus on learning and mastering their assigned roles to ensure both personal and team success.

Continued Growth

We encourage all families and coaches to help expand our program by recruiting new participants. By growing our football and cheer community, we strengthen our legacy and provide more children with the opportunity to develop life skills through sports.

If you are interested in coaching or have any questions, please email me at [email protected], and I will respond as soon as possible.

I look forward to serving you in 2025 and helping our athletes grow both on and off the field while continuing to build one of the best programs in Florida!

Best wishes and GO MUSTANGS!
